Kanye West wasn’t at the Oscars but his legacy was. When the award for Best Documentary Short Subject was handed to director Roger Ross Williams for “Music by Prudence”, producer Elinor Burkett did a “Kanye” and interrupted him mid-speech. Williams excitedly ran on stage to accept the trophy. And when he was just warming up with his speech, Burkett unceremoniously jumped on stage and stole his thunder. “Two years ago when I got on a plane to Zimbabwe, never in my wildest dreams did I think I would end up here. This is so exciting ” he said before Burkett snatched the mic. Williams have taken it in stride and smiled throughout Burkett’s speech, although there were moments when they appeared to be competing with each other to speak. |
